Where is Bled?

Imagine a picture-perfect scene: a crystal-clear lake, a tiny island with a church, a medieval castle resting on a cliff, and snow-capped mountains in the background. That’s Bled, a small town in northwestern Slovenia. It’s located in the foothills of the Julian Alps, making it a great base for exploring nearby spots like Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Planica, and Vintgar.

On a side note, we are very familiar with the place as we filmed many weddings in Bled. We did a lot of mountain biking in Kranjska Gora. Went to see the ski jumping in Planica and had some beautiful walking time in Vintgar.

Things to Do in Lake Bled

Bled Castle: Believe it or not, this isn’t just any castle. In fact, it’s over 1000 years old! After you’ve finished exploring, take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake and town below. The entrance fee is 15 Euros for adults and 6 Euros for children.

Pletna Boat Ride:

Go on these special wooden boats and let a local row you to Bled Island. The fee per adult is 14 Euros and children’s fee is 7 Euros. Once there, walk up the 100 plus steps stairway, go to the beautiful church and ring the old bell to make a wish! The views from there are also magnificent 🙂

Stroll around the lake:

A simple walk that’s so peaceful, you’ll forget all your worries. Firstly, be prepared with some water and some snacks because it is a long one. However, after you are done, immediately go and grab a coffee in any place with beautiful decks and a view of the lake.

Tasty Snacks in Bled

Ever heard of a kremšnita? It’s a delicious cream cake that Bled is famous for. While sipping a cup of coffee, it’s a treat you can’t miss. And if you’re in the mood for something else, try a plate of štruklji – dough rolls stuffed with various fillings. Delicious!

Beyond Bled: Nearby Gem

Bohinj: Just a short drive from Bled, Bohinj is another beautiful lake, but with a wilder touch. Great for nature lovers and those looking for a quieter spot.

Kranjska Gora: This place transforms in winter. Think snow, skiing, and lots of fun. In summer, it’s perfect for hiking and taking in the mountain air.

Planica: Ever watched people fly without wings? Planica is home to one of the world’s biggest ski jumping hills. If you’re feeling brave, there’s even a zipline!

Vintgar Gorge: A natural wonder where wooden pathways let you walk alongside rushing waters and waterfalls. It’s like a fairy tale to put it mildly.

In Conclusion

Bled, with its peaceful lake and charming surroundings, is like a postcard come to life. But there’s more to it than just pretty views. From the history of its castle to the thrill of ski jumping in Planica, there’s a slice of Slovenia waiting just for you.

Safe travels and enjoy your trip to Bled and its surroundings!
