When we ran our wedding videography and photography company, Wedding Tales, this was our passion. My wife and I spent years capturing love stories, traveling across Europe and our home country, Slovenia. And Bled? It was always one of our favorite backdrops.

Here’s what a typical wedding day looked like through our lenses.

The Night Before: Gear, Check. Batteries, Check. Snacks, Double Check.

Our wedding day didn’t start with the sunrise. It started the night before. We’d pack and double-check every piece of gear: cameras, lenses, drones, gimbals, audio recorders, and of course, extra batteries and memory cards.

This prep routine was our ritual. We’d charge everything, go over the schedule, review location notes—and finally, try to get a good night’s sleep before the big day.

Morning: The Calm Before the Celebration

By sunrise, we’d be at the Grand Hotel Toplice, right by Lake Bled. The golden morning light reflecting off the water, the castle watching from above. It all felt like something out of a movie.

Inside the hotel, the couple would be getting ready in separate suites. The air buzzed with excitement (and hairspray). We captured every detail: the dress being zipped, the groom fixing his tie, laughter between friends, handwritten vows, and yes, those essential morning coffee cups.

Late Morning: Off to the Island

Once the couple was ready, it was time to head to the iconic Bled Island. The boat ride across the lake on a traditional pletna was cinematic every single time.

We filmed from every angle. On the boat, on the shore, and even from above with a drone. As the couple approached the chapel. Sometimes the groomsmen would carry the bride up the island’s steep staircase (a workout and a memory all in one!).

The ceremony inside the charming old church was always heartfelt. We moved quietly through the space, capturing every glance, every tear, every smile. Ending with the couple laughing together as they rang the famous bell.

Afternoon: Portraits and Visual Stories

After the ceremony, we’d take the couple for portraits. This was where we got creative: dreamy lakeside shots, golden hour in the forest, dramatic castle-in-the-background scenes.

Every couple brought their own energy. Some soft and romantic, others full of playful sparks. We tailored our style to match their story.

Midnight: Wrapping Up the Fairytale

Our day usually ended around midnight, after the cake had been cut and the bouquet tossed. By then, we were tired, our feet sore. But our memory cards full of magic. Driving home under the stars, we always felt grateful to do what we did.
