Super flavours, super colours, super food
A little history
Smoothie power we call this blogpost but did you know that smoothies are pretty new when compared to other culinary traditions? but regardless, their popularity is growing rather quickly.
The modern smoothie as we know it today was created in the 1930s by a man named Fred Waring, who was a bandleader and musician. He invented the first electric blender and used it to create a drink made from fruit, yogurt, and ice, which he called the “Miracle Mixer.”
However, it wasn’t until the 60s and 70s that smoothies became popular as a health food. There is a data that In 1969, the first Orange Juice stand opened in Los Angeles, serving a frothy drink made from orange juice and other ingredients that eventually became known as the “orange smoothie.”
In the 80s and 90s, smoothies gained even more popularity as health-conscious consumers sought out alternatives to sugary drinks and fast food. Smoothie bars and juice shops began popping up in cities across the country, and major chains like Jamba Juice and Smoothie King emerged.
Today, smoothies are a popular drink around the world, and the options are virtually limitless. Smoothies can be made from a variety of fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients, and they can be customized to fit any dietary preference or need. Some people even use smoothies as a meal replacement or a way to supplement their diets with extra nutrients.
Here are some of the health benefits of smoothies:
Nutrient-packed: Smoothies can be a convenient way to pack a lot of nutrients into one drink. They are often made with fruits and vegetables, which are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Digestive health: Smoothies can also be beneficial for digestive health. They can contain fiber, which helps to promote regular bowel movements and improve overall gut health.
Hydration: Smoothies can be a good way to stay hydrated, especially if they are made with water or coconut water. Staying hydrated is important for overall health and can also help with weight management.
Weight management: Smoothies can also be a useful tool for weight management. They can be low in calories and can help to keep you feeling full and satisfied between meals.
Immune system support: Smoothies can also be a good source of immune-boosting nutrients like vitamin C, which can help to support a healthy immune system.
Energy boost: Smoothies can be a good source of energy, especially if they are made with ingredients like bananas, which are high in potassium and can help to regulate energy levels throughout the day.
Overall, smoothies can be a healthy and convenient way to get a variety of nutrients into your diet. However, it’s important to keep in mind that not all smoothies are created equal. Some can be high in sugar and calories, so it’s important to choose ingredients wisely and be mindful of portion sizes.

Which is Maruša’s favourite Smoothie and why?
“I would choose the one with banana, all types of berries, different nuts, chia seeds, goji berries & frozen joghurt. I like that specific one because there are a lot of fibers in it, it taste delicious and because i prefer fruity and sweet smoothies than “veggie” style…veggies i like to eat them raw, in salads”
And which is Daniel’s favourite Smoothie?
“My favourite one has Kiku apples, banana, blueberries, chia seeds, a tablespoon of oats, little splash of honey and almond milk…best thing ever”
